With many offices still closed due to COVID, there is still a large part of the workforce doing their jobs from home.
While this has saved some people hours of commuting time and has given others the luxury of more time at home with family, working from home can cause you to develop bad workplace habits if you are not careful.
Procrastination
This is a bad habit many of us have been guilty of at one time or another. When working from the comfort of your home, it can be easy to get into a rut and put things off. If you are working from home, so are many of your prospects who are spending more time answering phone calls, checking their emails, and browsing social media. Now is the prime time to kick it into high gear and prospect for new clients while more people are spending time at home.
Resignation
While you aren’t resigning from your job, you may be feeling like you are treading water while working from home and waiting for life to get back to normal. While you may be waiting to take off your mask and get back into the office, resigning yourself can keep you from making progress. It’s important to keep working at your normal pace to ensure you hit your numbers and expectations that your employer has for you.
Lack of Discipline
Going to the office every day gave you a routine to follow. You had time blocked off; you scheduled reviews, attended meetings, your manager or boss was around to check on your progress and ask for project updates, etc. Now that you are working from home, you may not have the discipline that came with your daily routine. Without discipline, customers and new business can fall through the cracks. You may forget to return a call or an email, miss a deadline, and next thing you know, you have to play catch-up.
